Hello everyone!

i am happy to join with you today in what will go down in history as thegreatest demonstration for freedom in the history of our nation.

five score years ago, a great american, in whose symbolic shadow we standtoday, signed the emancipation proclamation. this momentous decree came as agreat beacon light of hope to millions of negro slaves who had been seared inthe flames of withering injustice. it came as a joyous daybreak to end the longnight of their captivity.

but one hundred years later, the negro still is not free. one hundred yearslater, the life of the negro is still sadly crippled by the manacles ofsegregation and the chains of discrimination. one hundred years later, the negrolives on a lonely island of poverty in the midst of a vast ocean of materialprosperity. one hundred years later, the negro is still languished in thecorners of american society and finds himself an exile in his own land. and sowe've come here today to dramatize a shameful condition.

in a sense we've come to our nation's capital to cash a check. when thearchitects of our republic wrote the magnificent words of the constitution andthe declaration of independence, they were signing a promissory note to whichevery american was to fall heir. this note was a promise that all men, yes, black men as well as white men, would be guaranteed the "unalienable rights" of"life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness." it is obvious today that americahas defaulted on this promissory note, insofar as her citizens of color areconcerned. instead of honoring this sacred obligation, america has given thenegro people a bad check, a check which has come back marked "insufficientfunds."

Thank you!

Good morning, it's my honor to stand here and give you this speech aboutdreams. There I want to start my speech with two short stories.

The first story happened when I was in primary school, I wrote in mycomposition that my dream was to be a teacher when I grew up. Meanwhile, what myclassmates wrote about their dreams was that he or she wanted to be a doctor, ascientist or an astronaut.

The second story happened at my first year in university. At the careersplanning class, when the teacher asked about our dreams, one of my classmatesstood up and said, “I want to be a farmer, because I grow up in a farmer'sfamily and I love to be engaged in agriculture.” When he sat down, everyoneclapped.

These two stories happened during my growth process, from which I got myunderstanding of dreams. When I was a child I believed that a dream must be abig dream, but when I grow up I find this big dream is so far away from me, Iknow little about it, and I have done nothing to achieve it, so it's not mydream. My classmate's answer let me know a real dream is not just about being agreat man, or doing a great job, it's about what you really want to be, and arewilling to try every effort to pursue it.

Because what makes a dream valuable is not just about the result, it's alsoabout the process, the process when you are trying, when you are struggling, when you failed and restarted again and again, because of the process, dreamscan be meaningful and become your wealth.

Thank you.

Sports help everyone to keep healthy, happy, and efficient. So I pay special attention to games, especially table-tennis. Table tennis is my favorite game. I play it almost every day.

Table-tennis is an ideal game us because it brings the whole body into action. It strengthens our muscles, expands our lungs, promotes the circulation of the blood, and causes a healthy action of the skin. Besides, it is very amusing and does not cost us much money. Table-tennis is very moderate; it is not so rough as football. It is an indoor game and can be played even on rainy days. Thus, it is my favorite kind of exercise.

英語朗誦文章篇一

Be an Optimist(做一個(gè)樂觀的人)

Do you see the glass as half-full rather than half empty?Do you keep your eye upon the doughnut, not upon the hole?Suddenly these clichés are scientific questions,as researchers scrutinize the power of positive thinking. Research is proving that optimism can help you to be happier, healthier and more successful. Pessimism leads,by contrast,to hopelessness, sickness and failure, and is linked to depression, loneliness and painful shyness. If we could teach people to think more positively,it would be like inoculating them against these mental ills.

Your habits count but the belief that you can succeed affects whether or not you will. In part, that‘s because optimists and pessimists deal with the same challenges and disappointments in very different ways. When things go wrong the pessimist tends to blame himself.“I’m not good at this.”“I always fail.”He would say. But the optimist looks for loopholes. Negative or positive,it was a self-fulfilling prophecy. If people feel hopeless they don‘t bother to acquire the skills they need to succeed.

A sense of control is the litmus test for success. The optimist feels in control of his own life. If things are going badly,he acts quickly, looking for solutions, forming a new plan of action, and reaching out for advice. The pessimist feels like fate‘s plaything and moves slowly. He doesn’t seek advice, since he assumes nothing can be done. Many studies suggest that the pessimist‘s feeling f helplessness undermines the body’s natural defenses, the immune system. Research has found that the pessimist doesn‘t take good care of himself. Feeling passive and unable to dodge life’s blows,he expects ill health and other misfortunes,no matter what he does. He munches on junk food, avoids exercise, ignores the doctor, had another drink.

Most people are a mix of optimism and pessimism, but are inclined in one direction or the other. It is a pattern of thinking learned at our mothers‘knees. It grown out of thousands of cautions or encouragements, negative statements or positives ones. Too many“don’t”and warnings of danger can make a child feel incompetent, fearful—and pessimistic. Pessimism is hard habit to break—but it can be done.

A Glimpse of Music Today (當(dāng)今音樂一瞥)

Prior to the invention of the radio and the phonograph, the only means whereby music could be brought to a big audience was actually having it performed live. But today we have radio and film, records and tapes, and something lese, music videos!

Actually the marriage of motion pictures and popular music is nothing new. The movie industry has made musical films for decades, and musical programs have been a staple on home screens ever since the first days of television. So what makes this phenomenon called“music videos”so different?Perhaps the answer could best be provided by the music recording industry By the late 1970s,record sales in many Western countries underwent a major slump, faced with competition from new leisure time activities such as video games. To fight back, record companies stepped up the production of video clips as a marketing tool for their records. By the middle of this decade, virtually every pop song that became a hit would also be presented to the public in the form of a music video. Today, pop music lovers perceive their favorite songs not only in musical terms, but also in visual terms. Music videos are so popular that they have become an important part of television programming in many countries. In the United States, there is actually al television channel which shows videos 24 hours a day. The visual style of music videos have also affected different branches of the communications media. For instance,a lot of today‘s advertising looks and sounds like pop music video. This usually means snappy editing techniques, upbeat music and striking images. Typically, most music videos run for about 3 to 4 minutes, the average length of a pop song.
